About Silent Book Club Lekki
Silent Book Club Lekki is a free monthly hangout for people who want to read in good company, no assigned book, no homework, just an hour of quiet reading followed by conversation.
We meet at The Sidebar in Lekki Phase 1. Everyone brings whatever they're currently reading, orders a drink, and settles in. Phones go down. Pages turn. After an hour, the room opens up, recommendations, debates, new friends, and sometimes a cocktail matched to the book of the month.
The idea is simple: reading doesn't have to be solitary. Some books need witnesses.
Daniba Dan-Princewill
Daniba Dan-Princewill founded Silent Book Club Lekki because she wanted a room where people could read whatever they were actually into, no assigned book, no pressure to perform, just good company and quiet pages. She also organizes Silent Book Club VI, the sister chapter at Alali Studio in Victoria Island, so if Lekki isn't your neighborhood, there's a seat waiting there too.
Outside the book clubs, she's the founder and creative director of Alali Creatives and Sip and Paint .NG.
Silent Book Club VI has drawn readers from every direction Lagos has to offer, from Egbeda and Ikorodu deep on the mainland, to Badagry out west, to Awoyaya and Lakowe on the far eastern edge past Ajah. People are crossing the whole city, some for over an hour each way, just to be in the room once a month. When members started asking for a way to come more often, Silent Book Club Lekki was the answer, and an Ogba/Ikeja hub is next, so more of Lagos doesn't have to travel so far for it. Because this is free, the real commitment on our end is consistency: making sure every reader who makes that trip finds it worth it.

Part of a global movement
Silent Book Club began in 2012, when friends Guinevere de la Mare and Laura Gluhanich started reading together at a San Francisco wine bar. It officially launched as an organization in 2015 and has since grown into a global community of more than 2,200 chapters in 70+ countries and over a million members.
The core idea hasn't changed: no assigned reading, bring your own book, read quietly together in company, then chat if you want to. Silent Book Club is a registered trademark of Silent Book Club LLC. SBC Lekki is proud to be one of its chapters.
